Dimension 7(D7) is a San Francisco based production company
known for pioneering the creative integration of video,
lasers, and computer imaging techniques. Dimension 7
exemplifies the convergence of digital media creation and
software engineering talent necessary for success in the
digital media markets of the 21st century. Dimension 7 is
taking a leadership role in the development of new media
creation and delivery for the entertainment, educational,
and corporate marketplace.
Formed in San Francisco in l994, Dimension 7's staff
includes video and music producers, software engineers,
computer graphic artists, production technicians, and web
developers. Dimension 7 (D7) is the originator of what it
calls 'immersive environments' which are large scale
projection environments consisting of video and laser
projections combined with sound design and musical
performance. These media environments have been designed
from their inception to enable a multi-camera (multicast)
viewing experience for digital television in addition to
experimenting with new methods of advertising and electronic
commerce.
Dimension 7 has been instrumental in the convergence of
digital media software development and production
methodologies. Dimension 7 projects have included:
- special effects for feature films (Virtuosity, starring
Denzel Washington,Paramount Pictures, l995),
- live production design and computer graphics for
conventions / tradeshows, and
- live production design and computer graphics for
artists as diverse as jazz great Ornette Coleman and rock
group the Stone Temple Pilots..
D7 software engineers have been involved in the creation of
the first generation of authoring tools for DVD production
(Daikin Scenarist), have been involved with digital settop
box software design and applications, and have worked with
hardware and software manufacturers to optimize digital
video compression technologies.
